Join Us for a Sustainable Fashion Event at Emersons Green Village Hall!
Date: Sunday, 26th January 2025
Time: 12:30 – 14:30
Location: Emersons Green Village Hall, Emersons Way, BS16 7AP.
As the new year unfolds, we invite you to join us for an inspiring and uplifting sustainable fashion event at Emersons Green Village Hall. This gathering is not just about fashion; it’s about making a positive impact on our planet, our community and the lives of those employed making our clothes. With the rising concerns of fabric waste and the ongoing cost of living crisis, it’s more important than ever to explore sustainable alternatives and celebrate creativity.
Why We’re Doing This
Inspired by figures like Patrick Grant from The Great British Sewing Bee, whose recent book “Less” encourages us to rethink our consumption habits, and singer Chappell Roan, known for her vibrant thrift store outfits, this event aims to celebrate resourcefulness and creativity in fashion. We believe that everyone can play a role in making fashion more sustainable, and we want to showcase talent within our community.
Many of us don’t realise the fashion industry is one of the most polluting sectors in the world, contributing to vast amounts of fabric waste that end up in landfills. In a time when many are feeling the pinch financially embracing sustainable fashion can offer not only a solution for our planet, but also a more affordable and creative way to express ourselves.
What to Expect
The afternoon will be a blend of inspiration, education, and fun. We are excited to announce that local sustainable stylist Becky Barnes will host our fashion show, highlighting charity shop finds, innovative designs and handmade creations from our community members.
Attendees can look forward to:
- A Fashion Show featuring local creations and unique outfits.
- Representatives from Local Charity Shops showcasing how second-hand shopping can elevate your wardrobe.
- Sewing Groups and Textile Students sharing their knowledge and passion for sustainable practices.
- Local Fabric Shops
- Emersons Green Library with sustainable fashion books
- Tea/Coffee and Cake to fuel your creativity and conversation.
Get Involved!
We are looking for community members of all ages, genders, shapes, and sizes to model outfits. This is a wonderful opportunity to express your individuality and creativity, and you’ll receive plenty of support in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. You can model something you have made, bought second hand, a vintage garment handed down through the generations or simply model some of the outfits Becky will be putting together for us.
Join Us!
Mark your calendars for Sunday, 26th January 2025. Whether you’re a seasoned sewing enthusiast, a charity shop explorer, Vinted veteran or simply curious about sustainable fashion, there’s something for everyone at this event.
