This programme supports communities in taking practical action to use water more wisely, manage rainwater effectively, reduce surface water runoff, enhance local green spaces, and build resilience to the impacts of climate change.
Through this partnership, the Town Council will be able to access funding and support to deliver a range of local projects aimed at benefiting residents and the environment. Proposed initiatives include:
- Installation of drinking water fountains in public spaces
- Providing water butts for community buildings and allotments
- Developing a rainwater collection shelter at the local allotments
- Delivering a ‘Yellow Fish’ awareness campaign to highlight how drains connect to local waterways
- Supporting litter clean-up activities along the Folly Brook stream
In addition, the Town Council is planning to host a community conversation event with Wessex Water. This will provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about local water management, ask questions, and engage in open dialogue about water-related issues affecting the area.
The Town Council is committed to working collaboratively with partners and the community to protect and enhance local waterways while delivering practical improvements for Emersons and Lyde Green.
Further updates on project progress and opportunities to get involved will be shared in due course.
